HP: What are your thoughts on Emma as a character, a person, and a person who is deaf”
DB: Emma has spunk and a mind of her own. She’s bright and talented but isn’t using her gift like she should. Hopefully in the future, she will grow to do what she is destined to do. She had a connection with the hearing community and the Deaf community but after a tragedy she went through, she became distant from both communities. So we will see what happens with Emma when or if she reconnects with people.
HP: Tell us about some of the experiences you have had on Heroes, what it’s like walking on to the set, working with Milo, and now, working with Masi.
DB: While walking onto the set from my trailer, I saw this big Hollywood sign on the mountain. It was neat seeing that every time I work on set, reminding myself that I’m actually a working Hollywood actress. I don’t usually think this way. My mind has been so focused on finishing school. But also, the surrounding of the studio is home to me. I remember riding those bikes with a basket in the front when I was a little girl while my dad was working as a gaffer. I used to ride between stages and peek in to watch people work. It’s like being back home. The writers are warm. They listen to my ideas about Emma. Hair stylist Leanne, I have worked with her before on CSI and it’s great working with her again. Working with Milo? I’m impressed with his work and how he works with the others. He’s a gentleman and has no ego. Masi…Masi is Masi. He’s actually funny and very bright. A pleasure to work with as well. I look forward to working with the next Hero on the next episode I’m working on.
HP: What would you, personally, like to see Emma become?
DB: I would personally like to see Emma doing what Hiro advised her to do. Once she understands how to use her powers, she can use it for good reasons. I’d like to see Emma discover that she has more abilities than she realizes.
HP: What experiences and interactions have you had with the fans thus far? What are your thoughts on the show and its fans?
DB: I’ve been stopped in the streets with people commenting how much they enjoyed my work on the show. They looked excited when they see me. It’s fun but scary. I get more e-mails on my website. Before the role Emma came along, I watched Heroes when it first came out. I loved the show and the writing. I couldn’t understand why some fans complained about the second season. I grew to love the characters and enjoyed the scenes in all the episodes. Never would I have thought I would be in Heroes! I’m having fun working with the crew, writers, and cast. Nice group.
HP: And finally, just because everyone else on the set has been asked this question more than once: if you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
DB: Reading minds like Greg Grunberg’s character, Matt. Reading minds is so much easier than reading lips. Seriously!
